Our world has literally been turned upside down for weeks now, with a pandemic at our door. There is nowhere to escape, and social distancing and stay at home recommendations are the order of the day. The news has made us feel saturated and maybe a little scared. I finally decided to stop watching and reading about it so much. I am keeping up on my local level because that affects me directly, but otherwise, I've just had, out of necessity, to turn it off or turn it down. So how does one stay sane? How does one see the positive?
Our choices may be limited, but they are certainly not non-existent. Some are exercising more. Some are learning how to cook or trying out new recipes. Some are binging or catching up on shows. We can still enjoy walks in the park. We can plan a picnic - in our backyard. We can enjoy an afternoon tea, complete with tiny sandwiches and pastries. We can break out those board games and puzzles that have been collecting dust. We can learn to blog or vlog. I've seen several people reading children's stories on video, and I think this idea is lovely!
I began scouting around my house for unfinished projects, or simple new projects that I can do in a day. It can be frustrating at times, seeing a project I'd like to do, only to realize I need supplies and can't just pop out to buy them. But I have many others that I CAN do, so some that have sat idle for longer than I want to admit, are finally seeing the light of day.
But no matter what, I remind myself daily with the help of a sign hanging in my bedroom:
I purposely seek out something that will bring me joy, make me smile, make me happy. I'm sure you can find something - just one thing - every day, too.
