Create something magical

Raise your hand if you have ever spent time and energy and a lot of love on a homemade gift, only to have the intended recipient discard or disdain it. It hurts. And it makes you hesitant, if not reluctant, to ever devote such effort again.

Don't let such disregard dampen your creative spark. There is nothing more magical, more enchanting, than spending time focused on art. And yes, every thing you create with your hands is art! I enjoy many handcrafts, and desire to learn more. The very act is contemplative, if you let it. I enjoy doing mine while listening to music, or even during a tv show that doesn't require me to watch, just listen.

I love filling my home with my art - and yes, I call it art. It's in the eye of the beholder, right? And show it off! A friend of mine told me she often resisted posting pictures on social media of pieces she had done, because a few negative nellies had criticized her for showing off. Ignore them! Show it off! There will be many more appreciative of your work than those bent of being negative.

Tonight I am working on something I've put off for too long. They are Celtic knot bookmarks I am stitching with metallic threads. Since I love to read as much as I do, these are perfect for me. I made one a few years ago and have been intending to make more since.

Find your own passion, if you aren't sure what to do. Take a class, watch a youtube video, get a book from the library. Try different crafts until you find one you enjoy. If you are already a crafter, but have set it aside because, well, life, get back to it. You know the pleasure it brings. If you've grown bored with your tried and true, investigate new and different things to try.

Just make art!
